Eagles Final Cuts

The Philadelphia Eagles made their final roster cuts on Saturday, minutes before the league’s 6pm deadline, and there weren’t many surprises either.

Defensive end Jerome McDougle was the biggest surprise to be cut on Saturday after such an impressive season.

There just weren’t enough spots for McDougle on this team and his past history of injuries made him expendable. Continue Reading »

Mays Making An Impression

Rookie linebacker Joe Mays has made quite an impression during the 2008 pre-season and training camp in more than one way.

Mays has impressed not only his coaches but also his teammates in his strong play and quick adaptation to the defensive scheme but he has also left a lasting impression on his opponents.

Mays has been flying all over the field in the Eagles four pre-season games, hitting everyone in site, coming up with tackle after tackle.

In the pre-season finale against the New York Jets, Mays tallied a game-high 12 tackles.

That is the second time this pre-season that Mays has accomplished this feat. He is making a name for himself amongst Eagles fans as well. He is quickly becoming a fan favorite despite not playing a regular season game yet.

Mays has done all but solidify himself a roster spot for the 2008 season. He will be a prominent backup and a starter on special teams coverage. Look for him to see plenty of playing time on defense as the season progresses and he continues to develop.

Nevermind; Starters Don’t Play

Andy Reid was saying over the past week that the starters would play longer and more often in the final pre-season tune-up against the Jets.

Well, Big Red went back on his word and the starters weren’t even in there tonight.

The game, for some stupid reason, began at 6:30pm. It was right in the middle of rush hour on the Thursday of Labor Day weekend…not a good idea.

The Birds lead 13-3 over the Jets at Lincoln Financial Field at 7:30pm.

Kevin Kolb has looked sharp so far and so has running back Lorenzo Booker.

If the Eagles coaches utilize Booker, Brian Westbrook and receiver DeSean Jackson properly, then this Eagles team will be very successful.

Check back on Saturday for the updated final roster and a position by position breakdown of the roster.
