Roster Moves

The Eagles added depth to their linebacking core on Sunday.

They signed former Bird and Giant Tank Daniels and released veteran Rocky Boiman.

After final cuts were made to reach the league required 53-man active roster, you knew that there would be at least one more move to solidify this team.

Daniels was with the Super Bowl winning Giants in 2007 and was previously with the Eagles.

He also adds depth to an already impressive special teams unit.

The team has yet to name/sign players to their eight man practice squad for 2008.

The regular season begins on September 7th at home against the St. Louis Rams.

No Move Yet

The Philadelphia Eagles were allowed to sign players to their practice squad beginning on Sunday at noon.

That has yet to happen, or at least no signings have yet to be announced.

Why does this matter?

Well, some of the players the Eagles cut on Saturday will more than likely be signed to the practice squad, which is vital to a team’s success.

Practice squad players are allowed to do just that, practice with the 53-man roster everday. They learn the offensive and defensive schemes but aren’t allowed to play in a game.

They are there in case of injuries or player releases. If the Eagles need to replace an injured player who has been placed on injured reserve or fill a roster spot because of a release, management can sign a player to the active roster from the practice squad.

Players on the practice squad develop their talents and understanding of the team’s playbook while waiting for the big call. There are eight spots on each team’s practice squad roster.

Once the signings are announced we will have all eight players listed here with their position and whether or not they where with the Eagles in training camp.

Eagles Final Cuts

The Philadelphia Eagles made their final roster cuts on Saturday, minutes before the league’s 6pm deadline, and there weren’t many surprises either.

Defensive end Jerome McDougle was the biggest surprise to be cut on Saturday after such an impressive season.

There just weren’t enough spots for McDougle on this team and his past history of injuries made him expendable. Continue Reading »
