They Did It; They Really Did It
The Eagles did it; they really knocked off the previously 11-1 New York Giants at Giants Stadium on Sunday.
The Birds came into the game 6-5-1 and are now 7-5-1 and their playoff hopes are still alive.
With a loss, they would have been all but done for the 2008 season.
Now, they have knocked off the 2008 NFC East Champs and have a shot at running the table and getting into the playoffs.
What made the difference on Sunday?
The running game and the faith of the coaching staff in running back Brian Westbrook to get the job done is the answer to that question.
He was asked to carry the load against a tough Giants defense and he answered the call beyond anyone’s expectations.
Westbrook carried the ball 33 times for 131 yards and one rushing touchdown. He also added six receptions for 72 yards and a score.
The Eagles balanced the load between the pass and the run in their 48-20 win over the Cardinals on Thanksgiving night and did the same in their 20-14 win over the Giants on Sunday.
If the Eagles continue to balance the pass and the run effectively, they have a decent shot at running the table and getting into the playoffs.
Its a shame the coaching staff didn’t figure this out earlier in the season; the Eagles might be better than 7-5-1 and that 1 might be their 8th win of the season.
