First Half vs. 49ers
The first half versus the San Francisco 49ers started well for the Eagles and ended on an extremely sour note.
The Birds were leading 17-9 with one second left when David Akers was attempting a long field goal to end the half. The 49ers blocked the kick and returned it for a touchdown.
The Eagles only led 17-16 going into halftime.
This isn’t good because the 49ers offense was struggling to score points and the Eagles defense was playing well. The 49ers, before their special teams touchdown, had only converted on three field goal attempts.
Now the Birds have let this struggling team right back into the game.
The first half foul-up is Andy Reid’s fault. The Eagles had the ball with 24 seconds left in the half and on first down ran it up the middle. They then decided to throw the next couple of downs and had all three timeouts left.
Reid should have began the drive by throwing the football with all three timeouts left and 24 seconds on the clock. That is plenty of time to move downfield; which the Eagles began to do after the first running play.
Reid needs to open up his playbook if this team wants to win today and be successful the rest of the season.
The end to that first half was totally unacceptable.
